Barkatullah University formerly known as Bhopal University was established in 1970 in the capital city of Madhya Pradesh. In 1988 it was rechristened as Barkatullah Vishwavidyalaya, In the living memory of the great freedom fighter Prof. Barkatullah who belonged to Bhopal. The University has been aggregated ‘B’ grade by NAAC 2015.

University campus covering an area of Approx 400 acres of land is located along Hoshangabad highway at a distance of about 3 Km from Habibganj Railway Station. The University Complex includes Administrative Block, Library Block, Life Science Block, Microbiology Building, Law Block, Applied Aquaculture, Humanities Block, Social Science Block, Physics Block, Applied Geology Building, Institute of Open and Distance Education Block, C R Institute of Management Block, Department of Pharmacy Block, University Institute of technology Block, Hostel Buildings, Physical Education Building, Guest House Building, Post Office, State Bank of India Branch, Printing Press and Faculty Club.

The territorial jurisdiction of the University extends to eight districts viz Bhopal, Sehore, Vidisha, Raisen, Hoshangabad, Harda, Betul and Rairagarh. It also has extension centre at Betul and Biowara. There is one Engineering College, two College of Education, a Technical Teachers Training Institute, three Medical Colleges,  College of indology and Museology an English language Teachers Training institute, Ayurvedic, Unani, Physiotherapy and Homeopathic Colleges affiliated to this University.

University covers almost full spectrum of higher education offering courses in  this affiliated colleges and the University Teaching Departments in the faculties of Arts, Science, Social Science, Life Science, Home Science, Medicine, Commerce, Management, Law, Engineering, Education, Physical Education and Technical Education, The Chakravorty Rajgopalachari Institute of Management (CRIM) provides courses in different disciplines of Management and the Institute of Open and Distance Education (IODE) provides undergraduate postgraduate and diploma courses through correspondence.

The major emphasis of the University teaching departments is on interdisciplinary teaching and research. These teaching departments follow the annual semester system of teaching and examination, and make provision for such postgraduate courses, which are by and large, not provided a grant to establish a Women's Studies Centre in the Department of Sociology and have provided Special Assistance to departments of Microbiology and Physics under the SAP and COSIST.

Barkatullah University Admission

Barkatullah University offers UG, PG, and Ph.D. programs in the disciplines of Arts, Science, Commerce, etc. Admission to UG programs is based on merit in the qualifying exam or scores of National-level entrance exams such as CUET UG, and JEE Main. PG admissions at Barkatullah University are based on merit in the qualifying exam or scores of National-level entrance exams such as CUET PG, CMAT, CAT, MPMET, GATE, etc. Barkatullah University PhD admissions are based on the Ph.D. entrance exam conducted by the university or have a valid score in UGC-NET/JRF, CSIR-NET/JRF, or GATE followed by an Interview conducted by the University.

Barkatullah University Placements

Barkatullah University has been offering some of the best placements to the students. Reputed companies ranging from multinational IT companies to core start-ups are invited to participate in the BU Bhopal placement drive. The university has a dedicated placement cell that conducts these drives and training for students. 

Barkatullah University has counselling and placement cell and skill development centre to guide the students to achieve better placement. The Barkatullah University Bhopal placement cell works as a bridge between the students and the companies and also provides counselling to the students. The BU Bhopal Skill and Development Centre provides skill development and additional courses which help the students to develop employability skills. Some of the main activities of the placement cell are

  • Counselling for students.
  • Placement training.
  • Industrial visits.
  • Seminars, guest lectures, and workshops.

A lot of companies from different sectors such as IT, Consulting, Banking, Management, and more have participated in the BU Bhopal placement drive. In 2017, the Barkatullah University Bhopal placement was conducted with the highest salary package of Rs 7 lakh per annum and the average salary package was Rs 4 lakh per annum. 

Barkatullah University Scholarship

Barkatullah University offers scholarships to students belonging to weak economic backgrounds and having strong academic records in the qualifying examination. Some of the Barkatullah University Scholarship are listed as follows:

Meri Cum Mean Scholarship

This scholarship is awarded to students who received at least 90% in PCM or 80% in Arts or Commerce in their 12th-grade exams from the appropriate boards (CBSE, ISC, State Boards). To avail this scholarship, students are advised to visit the University physically and get all the further information regarding the scholarship, they may then fill out the scholarship form and submit it at the University office.

Sports Scholarship

Students who have competed in athletic competitions and taken home a medal or two at the national or international level are eligible for this award.

Barkatullah University Infrastructure and Facilities

Barkatullah University has a clean and green environment and is located along the Hoshangabad Highway which is at a distance of 3 kms from Habibganj Railway Station. It is spread over 400 acres. The University provides canteen, parking facility, smoke free zone, and other facilities which are mentioned below:

  • Library: The University has a Central Library which occupies 24000 square feet area. It has a wide collection of approximately 75000 Books, 2800+ Research Magazines, 5700+ Thesis, 14+ Daily Newspapers, 10+ Weekly Newspapers, Reference Books, Text Books, Journals, Dissertations, E-Books, E-Journals, etc. Library provides reference services, book bank services, open access to the resources, OPAC, E-Granthalaya Search, etc.
  • Auditorium: The auditorium is equipped with audio and visual facilities, sound system, etc. and is used for conducting seminars, meetings, panel discussions, etc.
  • Hostel: Separate accommodation facilities are provided to the female and male students. The University has 6 hostels situated within the campus. There are 3 boys’ hostels which include Jawahar Hostel, Sanjay Gandhi Hostel, and Munshi Premchand Hostel. The 3 girls’ hostels include Nivedita Hostel, Indira Gandhi hostel, and Rani Laxmi Bai Hostel. The hostels provide all the basic amenities to the students.
  • NSS: National Service Scheme organises health care and immunisation, literacy drive, tree plantation, blood donation camps, etc.
  • Sports: The University has a Department of Physical Education and Sports which provides the students with sports materials, infrastructure and facilities such as Cricket Ground, Badminton Court, Football Ground, Gymnasium Hall, etc.
  • Medical: The University has a Health Centre which fosters healthy community by providing good quality wellness programs for the students. The Health Centre also has medical officers.
